E. Henley. He is tall and powerful, and has a wily character that alternates between jovial good humor and utter ruthlessness in the pursuit of gold. #4 The effect of Treasure Island on our perception of pirates cannot be understated. Stevenson linked pirates with maps, black schooners, tropical islands, and one-legged seamen with parrots on their shoulders.
